We're back, and better than we've ever been! Thanks for visiting AMP. Please note that we are under continuous construction, and will have more to offer in the upcoming months. This is the new look for our "news" section. This page will feature AMP commentary on related and community events, films, music, and varios other projects.

The Art or Die series that Blackout Arts Collective has been producing at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in NYC has been going very well,and numerous AMP artists have been involved on the stage and behind the scenes. I've had an active role in producing the last two showcases, which were highly successful. Aliyah & Ernest have been heavily promoting each show through performances and word of mouth. More information on the next Blackout show will be posted soon, as will a few heavily anticipated updates, including one on the official release of my book, Prolific. As some of you know, I released a limited edition last summer, which had a successful short run.

Be on the lookout for the Art or Die anthology co-published by AMP & Blackout Press, as well as an untitled projects from Aliyah and Ernest.

We're everywhere, and we're quickly growing.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Hip-Hop Odyssey Awards at B.B. King's in Times Square. I was accompanied by fellow Blackout members, the lovely ladies of SistaPac Productions, and my long time friend and fellow performer, SoSoon. We sat at three long tables just above the VIP section (and in true VIP fashion we cut the line going into the venue to get our prime seating), and directly behind the booth where DJ Kool Herc (for those of you who don't know, he is the man who is credited as being THE pioneer of hip-hop) was seated along with his sister. The program was put together by volunteers from the Hip-Hop Association (H2A), led by Blackout co-founder and H2A Founder & Board Chairman, The Honorable George rithm Martinez.

The show was hosted by Paul Mooney, Ed Lover, & La Bruja. Among the honorees that night were Public Enemy, Grand Wizard Theodore, The Crash Crew, Ice-T, and The Cold Crush Brothers. The event featured performances from Immortal Technique, NYOIL, La Bruja, The Cold Crush Brothers, Crash Crew, Supernatural, the legendary Abiodun Oyewole of The Last Poets, the incomparable Aja-Monet, and Safari-Ra (of Blackout New Orleans). Aja's performance sent chills up everyone's spine, and left many people, including Ice-T, awed and speechless. Paul Mooney was himself, and had us laughing so hard that spit and tears were flying everywhere. Watch the clip on youtube, and laugh for yourselves.

In other news, there is a new feature length documentary that is currently in the works. It's called Hip-Hop for President. Go the link, and view the trailer. Right now. This documentary articulates the power of our generation to dominate electoral politics, and create the very changes that many of us in our hearts feel are necessary in this country and in this world.

I have spoken many times to a few of you about the power that our generation has, and how important it is for all of us to truly pull our weight. Do not take your power for granted, and don't doubt the ability you have to affect this world. It is easy to feel small as our world becomes larger, but the ripple you choose to make in the pond will change the landscape of reality.

Blackout Arts Collective co-founder, emcee, activist, politician, and my mentor, The Honorable George 'rithm' Martinez is producing this film, and featured in this trailer explaining the power and potential of our generation and our culture to manifest change. Rithm is the first emcee/activist to be elected to political office in the United States.
